Senior Backend Engineer

About the Role

We're looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our core infrastructure team. You'll be responsible for designing and building the APIs and services that power our AI-driven financial platform. This is a high-impact role where you'll work directly with our founding team to shape the technical foundation of Autonomy.

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you'll own critical systems that handle sensitive financial data and power real-time AI agents. You'll have significant autonomy to make technical decisions and drive architectural improvements.

What You'll Do

  • Design and build scalable APIs using Python and FastAPI
  • Architect microservices that handle high-throughput financial transactions
  • Implement secure integrations with banking and brokerage APIs
  • Optimize database performance and design efficient data models
  • Build real-time event-driven systems for AI agent orchestration
  • Collaborate with ML engineers to deploy and serve AI models
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical standards
  • Participate in on-call rotation for critical systems

What We're Looking For

Experience

  • 5+ years of backend engineering experience
  • Strong proficiency in Python and async programming
  • Experience with FastAPI, Django, or similar frameworks
  • Deep knowledge of relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred)

Technical Skills

  • AWS services (Lambda, ECS, RDS, SQS, etc.)
  • Docker and container orchestration
  • RESTful API design and GraphQL
  • CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code

Nice to Have

  • Experience with financial systems or fintech
  • Knowledge of compliance requirements (SOC 2, PCI-DSS)
  • Experience with event-driven architectures (Kafka, RabbitMQ)
  • Contributions to open source projects
